From 1 December to and including 3 Advent Saturday (14 December 2019), stationary retail generated around 55 % of Christmas sales in 2019. Compared to the previous year, sales increased by +1 % (calendar-adjusted). In Austria, 93 % of the Christmas business is generated in stationary retail.
In 2019, the online Christmas business in the domestic retail sector increased by +5 % to a total of around € 118 million (gross). This means that it accounts for 7 % of total Christmas sales.
Overall (online and offline), the Christmas business to date is +1.5 % above the previous year’s level. In total, Christmas sales of around € 1.66 billion (gross, incl. VAT) can be expected for 2019.
