From 1st December to 15th December 2018, the stationary retail sector generated around 60% of Christmas sales in 2018. Compared to the previous year, sales declined by -1% (calendar-adjusted). In Austria, 93 % of the Christmas sales are generated in stationary retail trade.
The online Christmas sales in the domestic retail sector increased by +5 % in 2018 to a total of around € 112 million (gross) and contributed almost 7 % to total Christmas sales.
Up to now, the online and offline Christmas sales are -0.5 % below the previous year. In total, Christmas sales in the Austrian retail sector are expected to reach around € 1.64 billion (gross, incl. VAT) in 2018 – a decline of around € -10 million compared to 2017.
