One-person-enterprises (OPE) are an essential part of the Austrian corporate landscape. At the end of 2018 there were around 316,000 OPEs in Austria, corresponding to 60% of the active members of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. Since 2007, the Austrian Institute for SME Research has regularly analysed the situation and development of OPEs in Austria. In a comprehensive study and survey of almost 1,400 one-person-entrepreneurs in 2019, the various aspects of their entrepreneurial activity were examined in more detail. Among other things, this resulted in a focus report on “hybrid” OPEs. These are people who are self-employed and employed at the same time.
