The structural change in the stationary retail trade is visibly intensifying - most recently especially due to the consequences of the Corona pandemic and the consequences of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine. The number of retail shops is continuously decreasing while at the same time concentration tendencies are increasing. Sales areas are shifting from traditional established locations to planned retail agglomerations (shopping centres, retail parks). KMU Forschung Austria has analysed these structural changes annually since 2003. The focus of the comprehensive structural analyses is on the development of the number of shops, sales areas and concentration trends in the stationary retail trade in Austria. The data basis is primarily provided by the KMU Forschung Austria structural database for the stationary retail trade.
